NOVÉA, producer of sustainable gas in France & Europe
Our History
In Europe, only 20% of the potential feedstock—agricultural biomass, forestry residues, and non-hazardous waste—is currently being utilized. The remainder is landfilled, exported, incinerated, or simply overlooked. At the same time, the biogas sector is gaining momentum: more than 1,500 facilities were identified in Europe by the end of 2024, billions have been invested, and the European regulatory framework places decarbonization at the top of its priorities. The potential is immense. The resources are available. What was missing was technology capable of processing them efficiently.
Pyrogasification provides the answer—and it is by no means new. Its roots date back to the 19th century, when the first gasworks used heat to convert coal into the famous “town gas” that lit the streets of Europe. In the 20th century, the process was adapted: wood, peat, and agricultural residues were gasified to meet growing demand. During periods of shortage, onboard gas generators powered thousands of vehicles. The advent of waste produced gas will push these technologies into the background—but they laid the foundation for a robust body of expertise.

Today, this expertise is entering a new era. Driven by the climate emergency and the need to make use of previously neglected resources, NOVÉA has made staged pyrogasification its flagship technology: proven, automated, safe, and capable of converting biomass and non-hazardous waste into sustainable gas.
